Filming requests | Sydney and Parramatta Light Rail

General information

Filming and photography requests are generally supported, but activities must not disrupt light rail operations, staff, or passenger comfort. If a request is approved, instructions from supervisory staff must be followed at all times. Filming may also be cancelled at short notice if required for operational reasons.

Before applying to film or take photos on or near the Sydney or Parramatta Light Rail networks, please read the details below. They explain our requirements, approval process, timeframes, and fees.

Preferred times

Filming should take place outside peak travel (10:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday). Requests outside these times may be considered.

Preferred times

Filming is not allowed in driver cabins or Operations Control Centres.

Safety and supervision

All requests are subject to a permit and a safety briefing. Depending on the scope, an accredited Person in Charge of Works (PiCOW) may be required to supervise your activity. Productions must follow the National Guidelines for Screen Safety and the Rail Safety National Law National Regulations 2012.

Approval process and timeframes

Applications are assessed case by case and may take up to 10 business days. If approved, fees will be advised, required authority approvals and payments must be completed, and logistics will be confirmed along with a day-of contact. The production crew must carry written approval during filming.

You may also need approval from other authorities depending on the location (see diagram and chart below).

Fees

At a minimum, the following fees apply:

  • Commercial shoot: $1,500 + GST (Commercial productions must provide proof of public liability insurance for at least $20 million).
  • Student shoot: $500 + GST (Requests from students must include a letter from your educational institution confirming the filming is part of your academic studies in your application).

Additional fees may apply depending on request complexity, crew size, support requirements, filming duration, time of day, and location. All fees are non-refundable.

Disruptions and contingencies

Customer safety and service reliability are our top priorities.

If filming is impacted by network disruptions or weather conditions, we will work with you to find a solution. This may include rescheduling. Additional fees may apply.
